Stratfor takes a shot at trying to put together what the higher oil and food prices will mean for geopolitics. Summary: more peace in the Middle East as they swim in oil money, hard times for China as their industrial miracle may be derailed by high fuel costs, and more or less a push for the USA.

Part of this assumes status quo regarding how and where we get our fuel.

It's become cost-mandatory to start working on alternative sources. For instance, landfills and garbage can be cost-effectively turned into "fuel" oil.
