We caught the ending of "60 Minutes" on Sunday and saw Andy Rooney's segment. His subject was how many people are carrying around backpacks and other sack-variants these days (apparently a new phenomenon that Andy hadn't noticed before), and what people were carrying in them. He noted how many people had books that they were carrying around, and speculated that a lot of worktime and productivity was being lost to workers reading novels while on the job.

Uh, Andy? Mean commute time in the USA is 25 minutes and a lot of people like to pass bus and train time by reading. There's also this thing called "lunch". Might that not better explain the proliferation of books, rather than a sinister desire to read on the job?
