I know, I know, the new series has been careful not to hew too closely to the old series, especially in terms of some of the underlying Mormon themes in the first, BUT...
...the scene that the Alliance finds on Earth at the end of the last episode: if Count Iblis had gotten to Earth first, that's pretty much how we've expected it to end up, isn't it? Compare to what happened to the spaceship/Battlestar that Iblis commanded at the end of "War of the Gods"...
I doubt that's what's happening, since there's been no foreshadowing of Iblis' place in the Cylon god/gods of Kobol pantheons, so it would be a deus ex machina to pull him out of the hat now; also see what Ron Moore has to say at the end of this entry for Iblis. On the other hand, you certainly wouldn't have seen that coming, would you?
More likely, the "unfriendly" Cylon faction got there first, or "things are not as they seem."(more on TOS 'Terra')
And who *is* the 5th Cylon, anyway? D'Anna said that "four of them are among you", which I take to mean the fifth is not. Does that mean he/she is on Earth?
