I'm working on a post on the *good* points of either Presidential outcome from each party's perspective, I'll try to get it up this coming week.
I'm more and more of the opinion that neither Kerry or Bush is up to meeting the challenges of the next 4 years. My hope is that the relative robustness of the American system-slash-bureaucracy will prevent things from sliding too far...but from reading the 9/11 commission report, it seems like the bureaucracy is also a big part of the problem because it doesn't adapt well and appears to need global rules to operate, rules which are all too often arbitrary. sigh. And it is the U.S. electoral system which wound up giving up these two bozos to choose from. These guys are the best we can come up with as a nation?
I guess that's a little unfair, since looking back at previous Admistrations can be a pretty sobering experience, and with the pass of history we tend to buff the reputations of the "legends" like Washington and Lincoln. The popular legend glosses over exactly how hated Lincoln was during the Civil War, even in the North, for example.
Still, I don't think anyone but the hardcore partisans are enthusiastic over either of these candidates at this point.
