Gardening notes
Jul. 21st, 2005 05:38 pmWe had 5 minutes of rain yesterday and overcast skies for much of the afternoon. Donna says its the monsoons coming in from the desert. Hope we get more of that its a nice change.
I've been trying to water the plants on our patio more, giving them two small containers worth instead of the usual one a day, now that we're in the high 90s and 100s on a daily basis. I'm starting to see some results: the strawberry plant has a number of small fruits on it, and the two jasmine plants have both shot up new shooters. I keep hoping the latter will get new flowers, but it might be out of season for that now.
The marigolds are loving the heat, think I've finally found a plant that will provide flowers on a regular basis. I have two primroses left out of the five I originally planted (the other 20+ went to Donna's dad's house, where most are still struggling along). No flowers on them, though one definitely has a small ant colony in its root system, since every time I water it the thing is crawling with them in a couple of seconds.
On the downside, the lemon balm plant and catgrass both look to be on their last legs, baked past returning to health I'm afraid. I'll still keep watering them & hope.
Finally, our miniature rose is flowering again, also likely a direct result of watering more.
