Extra scenes, SWIII
Jan. 3rd, 2006 04:03 pmGot the "Star Wars III" DVD for Christmas. For once, I agreed with dropping all the deleted scenes which were included on the extra DVD - for the most part, they were all talky-talky (exposition) scenes which Lucas simply isn't very good at writing in the first place, and which didn't add a whole lot to the plot anyway. The only exception was a 30 second shot of Yoda landing on Degobah to begin his exile, which would have been a nice thing to add in but wasn't a biggie.
Donna and I tried watching it with director's commentary turned on, but could only take about a half-hour or so before stopping it. Dry, very dry. Lucas and his team's comments were mostly about how they constructed a particular scene using CGI and such, vs. giving insight into the writing and characters which is usually why director commentaries are worth listening to at all. Not having any of the actors providing commentary was also a mistake; oftentimes they're the ones who have the most interesting stuff to say about the film shoot.
