I got a job!!
May. 30th, 2006 05:08 pmOver the weekend, the Census Bureau emailed me a job offer, and I called today and accepted it. I'll be working as a Statistician in their Population Division, specifically in the branch dealing with improving immigration statistics. The salary and benefits are very good, the same I would have gotten if I'd finished my Ph.D., I'll be working on an interesting subject area, and there's a lot of advantages to living in D.C. I'm originally from Philadelphia, so living back East probably won't be as stressful on me as it will be on Donna, who's lived her whole life in California, but there's going to be a lot of disruptions at first.
So, we're planning to move sometime in mid-July. That gives us some time to find housing, figure out what we're going to do about Donna's dad (who we're mostly responsible for now), find a mover, pack everything up, and so on. We made reservations today through Hotwire.com to visit the D.C. area in a couple of weeks to try and nail down a place to live; once we know that for certain, we can set a definite schedule for everything else.
Good News!
