SW III setup ?s
Jun. 8th, 2006 03:05 pmSo I was watching our Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith DVD on my laptop today, and one of those "well, THAT makes no sense" moments occurred right from the start. The scroll screen which sets the scene in every SW film establishes that the Sepratists reason for coming to the Republic's capital is to kidnap Chancellor Palpatine. OK, fine. Then in the first screen, we see a HUGE star fleet hovering over Coruscant, fighting it out with the planetary defense forces. Visually spectacular, but...
what sense does THAT make?
Kidnapping a single figure, even a leader, is by definition a raid. You want to be in and out as quickly as possible, which means limiting the number of ships to as few as possible, to try and maximize speed and maintain surprise. Yet, it seems like the Separatists arrive over the capital planet with a large percentage of their entire fleet, and are sitting over it and engaging in a firefight, AFTER having kidnapped Palpatine. That only makes sense if you're trying to occupy a planet, not get in and out quickly. So...why?
Oh, well. One of many flaws in an imperfect film.
