Richard Garriott, millionare creator of the Ultima series of computer games, for a number of years ran a haunted house at his Brittania Manor estate in Austin, Texas. Video here. It was by all accounts extremely intricate, included full-contact between guests and actors, and required problem-solving by guests in order to make it out. Its not running this year, but Richard said in the video that he hopes to do it again in 2006.

I have been having a hoot going through this site! Not quite like being there, but still a great vicarious experience.
Makes me think of Halloween at Boomeria, a complex of tunnels, laboratories, castles, dungeons, etc. up in the Santa Cruz mountains. The big difference with Boomeria is it's permanent. The owner used to periodically open it up to friends of the teenagers (then thirtysomethings) who helped him build it. I can probably still find my way through the catacombs in total darkness...

Oh my god, "The Boom" is on the web! You know, I KNOW the people who built the pipe organ (and a lot of Boomeria). The wooden pipes are hand-carved out of redwood fence posts!
