There's a perverse delight to be had from watching Lileks ("hopeless reactionary") cheerlead for Mark Steyn; it's the same sort of enemy-of-my-enemy-is-my-friend mentality that convinced Carter and Reagan to arm the folks who eventually became the Taliban.
Also, using a Toynbee quote to argue preservation of the status quo is humorous on its face, given Toynbee's own work to secure basic human rights for industrial workers at the cost of the industrial barons.
OW, ow, ow. I can't bring myself to delete it, but on reflection, the above is hopelessly snarky and utterly uninformative. Sorry, T, Lileks in the morning makes me cranky. :(
Lileks has been known to be quite snarky himself, so it evens out. I do enjoy his stuff generally, though didn't find his comments on this to be particularly up to his standards.
Then again, there's folks who think Garrison Keillor is a magnificent political commentator, too, whereas I find all of his opinion pieces to be strictly amateur hour. No arguing taste, I suppose.
