Root canal

Had my first ever root canal procedure on one of my molars on Friday. I was anxious, given how root canals seem to be dreaded by almost everyone who's had one. Unfortunately the dentist was running behind by about 45 minutes, which meant more fretting time in the waiting room.

Good news is that once I did get in there, he was able to get the tooth numbed up quickly and the procedure was extremely smooth. When he was done, I said incredulously "That's it?" to which he replied with a laugh: "And I bet you lost sleep over that, huh?" He gave me a prescription for 800mg ibuprophen, but I've been using my over the counter 200mg instead with no problems. The area is a little sore, but no more so than after a regular filling, and I was able to chew without any problems.

So if anyone needs a recommendation for a good endodontist in the D.C. area, drop me a line. He was *very* good. I should also mention their office staff were efficient and pleasant, and I was able to get appointments for both the initial evaluation and the therapy itself all in the same week, after another specialist said their office would need 3 weeks before they could get me in.

P.S. I did ask him if the condition of the tooth makes a difference in how a root canal goes, and he said yes, it does. My particular tooth wasn't in terrible shape yet, so that may have helped in how it went.
