The Toronto Star does a sad follow-up story on Knut, the former baby polar bear who became an international sensation. Well, he's grown up now and become unstable, according to the article. I don't know if it is as bad as the article says, but removing all human contact from an animal raised by people and also not trying to gradually socialize it to its own kind seems unduly cruel to me. The article implies that basically now that they've gotten all the $$$ out of Knut's cuteness they're likely to, they're not really sure what to do with him.
On a positive note, there was this nice article in our local paper about Socks, the Clinton's former "first cat" who's living out retirement in St. Mary's County MD with Betty Currie. Socks is 19 years old now, which is pretty impressive, and still going.
