AQ attack in Yemen
Sep. 18th, 2008 09:06 pmThis has gotten largely buried in all the bad financial news this week, but since when is this not major news?:
This morning, September 17, at approximately 9:15 local time, the U.S. Embassy in Sana’a Yemen was attacked by armed terrorists. A number of explosions occurred in the vicinity of the Embassy’s main gate and there were several secondary explosions. A number of Yemeni security personnel were killed and injured, as were several Yemeni citizens waiting to gain entry to the Embassy.Probably because no Americans died according to initial reports (since corrected), this didn't spark any warning bells or command headlines. But if this report is true, it should have. With all the problems occurring in Pakistan over the al-Qaeda presence there, the last thing we need is the group finding another haven, much less one next to Saudi Arabia and Africa.
