I wish I could say "little," but Oprah has a fair amount of influence nationally as far as what's considered 'normal' simply because of her overwhelming market share.

Intellectually, yes, but we can't ignore the influence of a person like Oprah on the national consensus & defining what "normal" is. As Justin put it in B5, "You're important. You're what they call a nexus. You turn one way, and the whole world has a tendency to go the same way. " I don't think its easily quantifiable, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, either.

Sorry, mate, but I don't see it. I do see that you see it, though, so I'll offer you this balm: not everyone who supported Obama in the election believes he's a messiah or mahdi; borrowing from H2G2, he's just this guy, you know?
