Weekend update
Apr. 13th, 2009 03:29 pmAccomplished lots of small garden chores to get it ready for Spring:
* sprayed apple trees with fungicide as a preventive measure against the cedar apple rust that ravaged them last year.
* planted two bean plants that I started as seedlings.
* planted two "Blue Concord" grape vines, we're going to try and get them to vine up the laundry drying rack we have in the back yard.
* planted strawberry plants from Lowes in a old strawberry pot we inherited from the house's previous residents.
* mowed the front and back lawns, first time since Autumn.
* covered most of both of the garden's raised beds with weed control fabric.
* started in on breaking up the large pile of apple tree twigs and branches which accumulated during pruning last month, filled two garbage cans for recycling. Also moved the pile back off the daffodils, which were getting choked under the weight.
* patched hole in patio screening that the squirrels had chewed in it.
* took Donna's car in for an oil change, also vacuumed and Armor*All'ed the interior.
* vaccumed house.
* went to Mass on Easter morning, nice service. Went to breakfast at Mimi's afterwards.
* to be fair, I also wasted more than a few hours playing Starcraft, which I received on Friday after winning it on ebay. Yeah, I can see why this game is considered an addictive classic, even if it is over 10 years old. The difference is that Blizzard has continued to work on improving it over that time period, so with the patches its like getting ten years of improvements in one shot. Fun!
