Alternative energy

tagrynThere's a neat discussion going on over at WindsofChange.net about alternative energy sources & their feasibility, starting within the context of Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" and expanding out from there.
It does seem to me that the best solution at this point might be to build many more nuclear plants, and strongly encourage purchasing of electric cars for the daily commutes which comprise a big chunk of overall vehicle usage. France, for example, gets 75%-80% of its energy from nuclear power, yet hasn't had a major incident of any note.
I will say, though, that if global warming is the main #1 issue which overrides all other considerations, figuring out what to do about China and India industrializing is the biggest problem. The U.S. uses more energy per capita than any other nation, and that needs to be addressed, but in terms of sheer volume, the population sizes of China and India make them the main emergent problem.
The global warming on Mars suggests that solar cycles are at least a contributing factor to global warming on Earth, but human activities are also a source.
