Turkey Trot

Ran in the annual 2-mile "Turkey Trot" at the Census Bureau on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day for November, temps in the mid-60s. There were about 30 or so runners - the group I was in - and about 15-20 walkers; a little disappointing for so nice a day, but at least there wasn't a huge crowd to try and maneuver in at the starting point (definitely not the case for the Santa Clarita 5K last year). I still have the problem of trying to start fast, rather than keeping to my usual pace, so I was a little winded on the back end of the race. Of course I came nowhere close to winning - I'm not in my early 20s anymore, as many of the runners were - but I did finish at about a little under a 8-minute/mile pace, which is not bad all things considered, and considerably faster than my 5K run time last year, which was around an 11-minute/mile pace. The Trot raised around $400 for cancer research, so a nice run on a nice day for a good cause.
