Journalist = Infidel

Interesting point made by Belmont Club: the reason Islamists target journalists in Iraq and elsewhere is because the whole concept of journalism and the media is seen as an invention of the infidels.

Though, I'm usually quite cynical about how the media elevates to "Great Tragedy" level any time a Western journalist gets hurt or killed while on a war assignment, while if the same thing happens to a Iraqi journalist or any non journalist (i.e. 'not of the tribe') it isn't considered as important.

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens & D.C. basilica

Over the Memorial Day weekend Donna and I went to visit the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens near the Anacostia River in D.C. Amazing place, ponds upon ponds of water lilys and other aquatic plants, as well as number of other wildlife like geese and goslings, turtles, etc. I've uploaded a few pictures we took there. I'm particularly proud of the lotus blossom pictures and the one of the hawk.

We also visited the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Very big and impressive. We happened upon it near the end of the annual ordination service, having had no idea this was happening that day, so it was pretty crowded but not oppressively so.
